Mariners’ Lamps Shed Light On Cottage History

I’ve been buddies with a lady in the next village for a few years now – we help each other when it comes to fetes and fund raising extravaganzas that we get roped in to on a regular basis.  It came as a real shock then when I popped in to see how she was after a big operation and she gave me a tour of her surprisingly vast cottage formed from one of the old barns attached to the nearby windmill.   Her hallways, bedrooms and cellar were lit by amazing mariners’ lamps which she’d acquired from her father who’d served in the merchant navy and collected them from specialist sales.  The power of those lamps is incredible – a bit OTT in a cottage, but very atmospheric.  With other subject related accessories, these mariners’ lamps really bring a touch of nostalgia in just the right degree.  The exterior ones are even more powerful and light her back garden beautifully.
